Aussie roadtrip 6000km+

Hello there! Time flies when you are having fun.. πŸ™‚

So what have we been up to lately? Well let’s continue from where we finished last time.. A lot has happened since then and we wouldn’t have created such beautiful memories if it wasn’t for our new family member.. our new car! We found our white pearl in Brisbane, a Ford Explorer, and well..Β Mikael did get his way (it’s big and has a lot of noise) πŸ˜€ We spent several days searching for cars. Usually there was something fishy with the cars, or they tried to sell broken ones.

Β Β We got the car with a very nice deal after a couple of days using Mikaels secret bargain tactics πŸ˜‰ Haha, we were very happy with our new Ford Explorer.Β We drove straight to Byron Bay on that friday, to spend the weekend with our friends, for some surfing and beach life.

Β Β Β  Β Β Β Β  The view from Byron Bay lighthouse is something you have to see if you go to Byron Bay. The lifestyle in BB is rather laid back and it is a paradise for surfers and hippies. Definitely a place to visit if you travel through the Gold Coast.Β Also our first camping experience, it was quite cool to have natures own morning alarm every morning at 07.00. Never slept so well.

After Byron Bay, we started our trip up north. The plan was to drive up as far as Cairns and Port Douglas and back down to Sydney. We had a long road ahead of us and we started just right before Easter. The best way to show you the greatest parts, is through pictures. So here it is, our unforgettable, amazing, once in a lifetime Aussie roadtrip.. πŸ™‚

Mikael surfing in Surfers Paradise ^^,
The view from our home inΒ Surfers! πŸ™‚ Beautiful Nerang River.Β Love the contrast.
Fresh fruit on the side of the road. Perfect place to rest for a while πŸ˜‰
Misty mountains on Bruce Highway πŸ™‚
White long beach and the most beautiful blue coloured water. This is Whithaven beach.
This island has the most snakes /m2 than any other place IN THE WORLD!
Snorkelling in Whitsundays. There’s a whole new world under the surface πŸ™‚
Airlie Beach and Whitsundays were like from a fairytale. So beautiful!!

AND YEEEES, we SKYDIVED! πŸ˜€ The best part was jumping from the plane at 14000FT (!) and free falling at a speed of 200km/h. We will definitely do it again, and if I dare to do it, YOU can do it! We jumped early in the morning (06.30) to see the sunrise. It was a perfect day!

After a week in Airlie Beach and Whitsundays we continued up to Townsville and Magnetic Island.. This is a picture from the boat trip to Magnetic Island from Townsville, the sky was on fire that evening πŸ™‚

Magnetic Island after sunset πŸ™‚
Magnetic sunset πŸ™‚

Feeding parrots some breakfast on Magnetic Island! They look beautiful and innocent, but they sound like… I don’t know.. absolutely annoying and terrifying? πŸ˜€ Love them anyways, and all the other amazing bird species that you can find here. The best way to wake up is hearing the birds sing (not parrots though), they sing such beautiful and creative melodies. It’s really cool! πŸ™‚

After Magnetic Island we drove to Cairns and stayed there for a bit over 2 weeks. We went to dive and snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, visited two beautiful waterfalls and the oldest rainforest on earth. Here are the best parts of Cairns, Daintree Forest and the Great Barrier Reef..

We had such a lovely day at Josephine Falls. A truly beautiful waterfall where you could swim in crystal clear water. πŸ™‚

People were standing in line to try the natural slide.. it was so much fun!! πŸ˜€
Daintree Adventure with our new friends Simon and AndrΓ©a. We met them in Airlie Beach and decided to travel together, friends for life! πŸ™‚ This day we saw a wild hog, a baby crocodile and the biggest spider ever. πŸ™‚
Smaller waterfall in Daintree Rainforest.
We stumbled upon a lake where you could play tarzan and throw yourself with the liana into the water. Guys loved it of course πŸ˜€
Another tropical waterfall on our path through the rainforest. The smell was so purifying, and the water was perfectly clear. πŸ™‚
The oldest rainforest in the world.. 100-180 million years old.
Natural swing in Josephine Falls. Loved this place πŸ™‚
Like from a painting.. ^^,
On this crocodile safari we saw the baby crocodile. The guide told us that even bullsharks (2 big ones) were hanging around as well.. so best not to fall in the water πŸ™‚
On another day we went to Millaa Millaa Falls. Great name isn’t it? πŸ˜€ The water was freezing, but definitely worth a visit! The way up to the waterfall was also an adventure!
Snorkelling and diving in the Great Barrier Reef.
Free diving in Cairns. I also tried Scuba diving and decided to do the PADI course at some point. πŸ™‚

The road trip eventually came to an end, when we arrived to Sydney the 10th of May after 6000km up north and back down. It was such a great and unforgettable experience. Memories we will carry with us for life. I wish I could explain it in words, but it’s impossible. It has to be seen, Australia has to be explored.

Here in Sydney it hasn’t been at all difficult to adapt to the new environment. Sydney is wonderful, it’s more busy and there are so many options available for us here. We have a feeling we might stay here for a while..;)

Here are some pictures from our Sunday walk on Coogee Beach, very close to where we live at the moment. We are currently looking for a more longterm apartment from the 22nd of June. So if you know something, let us know πŸ™‚

Take care guys! Will update sooner next time ;D

G’day mate!

Well, sorry we have been a little lazy with the updating. I guess you can say we have been a bit “busy” here down under. Australia has been treating us very well. We have been here for almost 3 weeks now and we have stayed in Coolangatta, Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise and now we are getting used to the city life of Brisbane.

Our daily life here for the past weeks has been a mix of trying to get used to this place, finding a reliable and practical used car and searching for accommodation in a fair price. Living is a little expensive here in Australia. If you guys have ideas or information, please let us know! πŸ™‚

We are planning to buy a car because it’s going to be more economic for us in long term. And yes, we are having different ideas about the car, Mikael wants a big SUV and I would be more than happy with a small Micra (just kidding) πŸ˜€ We are planning to take a road trip up north for a few weeks/months. We don’t know all destinations yet, but the final destinations when we head back south, will probably be Sidney or Melbourne. Whichever attracts us more. We will then settle down for a while (we believe) and try living a “normal daily life”. This is exciting for us, after 2 months quite intensive travelling we are looking forward to not packing our backpacks all the time.

Anyways.. If you like surfing, the Gold Coast is one of the places to be! We’ve also tried a little surfing, (or Mikael has, I’ve been happy on the bodyboard) it isn’t as easy as it looks.. but as they say; practice makes perfect! πŸ˜‰ Especially now, when Mikael actually WON a new surfboard, we will definitely learn how to catch the waves. We were lucky enough to fly in at a time when one of the biggest surfing competitions were on in Coolangatta. The best surfers in the world competing for the number one spot. They were amazing, they did the coolest tricks and it was the best kind of entertainment on the beach.

View over Kirra Beach, Coolangatta
It was a bit rainy and cloudy for a moment, but it didn’t stop the fans from showing up to support their surfer heroes.
Felipe Toledo from Brazil was a clear winner!! He showed us some seriously great tricks on the waves. Nice job dude!
Guys went surfing in Fingals Head. Crazy dangerous place, but it didn’t stop them from trying!

The sun is about to set in Surfers Paradise. Beautiful city right on the beach. Great place.
And yes.. We did try the night life in Surfers Paradise. It was a LOT more active than Coolangatta for example.. but don’t do the Wicked Club Crawl thing though.. not worth the money!
Our first home in Surfers.. not bad for 20AUD/person/night? πŸ™‚ We had gym, sauna, spa and even a tennis court! A very nice place, even if it was a bit further away from the city center.
Today we went to the Museum of Brisbane. We learned a lot about dinosaurs and other lost creatures. We didn’t even have time to see the whole thing so we might come back for more. Highly recommend this place!
We also did some magic in the Museum. They had a Science Area where you could do a lot of funny tricks and tests. That was our favorite place πŸ˜€

There has been a lot of action the past weeks we have been here, we have seen and done a few things already. There are a lot of new things to get used to.. one for example; here in Australia the wildlife is very close to you. We haven’t seen any scary snakes yet, but the spiders. OMG, the spiders are everywhere.. and the bats.. the bats here are seriously like flying dogs(!) We haven’t seen any sharks yet (good thing!) but Mikael was stung by a jellyfish on the arm and in the face one day, thank the lord it wasn’t one of the deadly ones. However, I was still freaking out about it.

Our new friends.. these guys are hanging out everywhere.:D
Lovely creature isn’t it? πŸ˜€ Still getting used to the spiders, this is actually a “normal size” spider over here. So all you people suffering from arachnophobia, come to Australia.. you will get cured! Yaiks.

Health wise things are also going better, I, Camilla have finally won over my pneumonia that I was struggling with for almost 4weeks, and also a TERRIBLE allergic reaction from the antibiotics. IΒ CANT’T WAIT for my next long run and I’m starting to feel like I might sign up for some marathon stuff soon. We’ll see! πŸ˜‰

Anyways that’s all for now..:-) Take care guys, we miss you!

Waiting for the bus in Brisbane, we are loving this place! πŸ™‚ Tomorrow we are hoping for closing a deal on a car and then we will probably head back to Byron Bay for the weekend.

Kuala Lumpur – Singapore – Gold Coast

Hello there fellas! πŸ™‚

We have now been travelling for 7 weeks and time flies, it feels like it was yesterday we arrived in Bangkok. We have already seen so much, but yet our journey has just begun. This feels amazing and we are truly blessed to be able to do this. This was the right decision for us, we haven’t had any regrets yet and we are looking much forward to our next chapter, Australia.

We were spending a few days in KL and Singapore before we flew off to the Gold Coast.Β KL and Singapore are two very different cities even if they are very close to each other. This is how we experienced the two..

We spent 2 days in Kuala Lumpur and we tried to get as much as possible out of those two days. We walked around the city and saw the main attractions. The Petronas towers were stunning!Β We also did some serious shopping while visiting the KLCC. It’s a very dangerous place for shopaholics on a budget!

We stayed in a really sweet hotel, the Maison Boutique where the staff was excellent in service. We even got a room that was decorated with a Michael Jackson-theme. Whenever we went to the gym, the staff made sure that MJ was playing in the background. πŸ˜€

KL is not the safest city, we didn’t experience anything special but you could somehow feel a tension in the air. Walking around alone at night is a big no no. Thankfully all the people we met were very nice and kind who made sure we had everything we needed.

Probably the most beautiful buildings we have seen so far. The way they lighted up in the dark was amazing. The shopping mall was HUGE.Β

Colorful fountains right outside the Petronas towers. Very romantic place, where a lot of young people were spending time.
Time for some brainless shopping πŸ˜€ it’s a good thing we have limited space in our backpacks!!

We took a bus (Nice Imperial) to Singapore on Thursday 26.2. The ride lasted for about 5h but it was worth every minute… Why? Because it had everything; massage seats, bus attendant, movies, games and lots of entertainment + the seats were extra comfortable in shape and size. πŸ™‚ It was also much cheaper than flying.

5h massage and movies? yes please πŸ˜€ We were 3 people on the bus, and of course we sat in the first row on the upper deck. It was a great ride!

Singapore, what a masterpiece! This city is beautiful and the service is amazing in Singapore. Everyone is super polite and smiling all the time. You feel very safe walking around even at night and we never worried about anyone trying to rip us off (a lot different from KL). The city is amazing!! 3 full days was clearly not enough time to go and see everything we wanted. We will probably come back for more some day. It’s most definitely one of our best experiences so far. We simply fell in love.

The heat was on during our stay, though.. some of the hottest days so far. It was like a steaming hot sauna! :Β΄)

Singapore is also a crazy shopping place, actually it’s more like shopping heaven!! The prices in Singapore are much higher, but we loved every minute we spent in this city. The pictures says it all..

On top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Waiting for the sun to set behind the skyscrapers.Β

Evening walk in Singapore. Even the promenade was lighted up beautifully πŸ™‚ Marina Bay Sands hotel in the background.
Lasershows, watershows and fireworks every night at 8pm. Β πŸ™‚ A lot of people gathered to see the shows at event plaza. It was really something special.

Shopping heaven indeed. All though, we did way too much shopping in KL.. so we had to avoid the shops in SG. πŸ˜€

..more shopping on Orchard Street. The shopping street is about 2,2 km long and full of shops and restaurants. There is something for everyone over here!Β

The celebration of the Chinese New Year was in full action. We were so lucky we came to Singapore at this time. Amazing parades and events all over town. It was a real pleasure to experience this, the culture and all the different street foods. Happy New Year of the Goat!Β
Singapore at night. Bright beautiful city lights. I think we sat and stared at this for hours.
Beautiful and powerful skyscrapes all over Singapore downtown. We took a bus tour around the city and saw the best parts.. it was sweet! We also checked out the National Museum of Singapore to learn more about the history.Β

For now we are hanging around in Coolangatta, Australia. We arrived yesterday and we are just getting acquainted with the place. We might be spending a longer period here. We have a working holiday visa, it means we can stay in Australia for up to 12months. No plans yet on how long we will stay or where we are heading next. We will let you now more when we do πŸ˜‰ There’s a surfing competition here starting tomorrow, so we will hang around here in Coolangatta for the time being. This place is so exciting and full of opportunities!! =)

Take care guys! XO/C&M

Adventures in Phuket

Hi guys, we hope you’re all doing well!

Everything is good over here! We have been hanging out in Phuket for almost a week now and we are planning to stay for a few more days.Β Phuket is full of energy, there’s a lot you can do here and we must admit that it has been a very positive experience so far.Β We have our “local guide”; our very good friend Henri who is showing us the best parts of Phuket. Thanks to him, we have been having great action everyday.

We arrived on saturday, valentine’s day and Henri had a party at his place. We went out dancing i Patong and we had a really good time. The next day we spent chilling in a really cool beach club, O2,Β and actually went to sauna in the evening. It was a special sauna that was scented with lemongrass. It felt very purifying for body and soul.

We met some really cool girls in Phuket. We had a blast!
Real fast food! Meat on a stick, absolutely amazing food. Perfect snack after a night out!
Sauna time thai style! It was a great experience. We will definitely do it again and if you have the chance to try it, you definitely should.

Another exciting thing we tried was SURFING! That was a lot of fun, our bodies were sore the day after though. We didn’t surf in the sea, it was actually a surf machine. It took some time before we got control over balance and body, but finally somehow, after many falls we managed to actually surf for a while. It was a blast! Even our cheeks were sore the day after because of all the laughing and smiling.

There were a lot of people watching us surfers (it was actually in a bar) and we were a bit nervous at first. πŸ˜€ but we can’t wait to actually try surfing for real, now that we are experts πŸ˜€

Waiting in line to get back on the board. We were stoked! πŸ˜€
It took some serious body control to maintain balance on the board. Slowly but surely we managed to stay longer and longer on the surf board. πŸ™‚
Mikael was a clear winner in this. He’s not going to have any problems on the real surfboard!

On wednesday we went for a long walk to get closer to Big Buddha. It was a hike uphill (400m up) and the hike was around 6km one way. It was a bit more cloudy yesterday day so it was much easier to climb. The heat wasn’t too bad, even though we were soaking wet before we got up to the restaurant where we had our lunch.

After the hike we had a beach day and late dinner at a place called Two Chefs. It was a really nice restaurant. They had a live music evening, where anyone who had the gift of music could come and perform, and there were some amazing singers and musicians there that night.

Going to Big Buddha. It wasn’t the easiest hike. The road was rocky and the hill was steep, but it was a great exercise!
Going to Big Buddha. The weather was a bit more cloudy, but we didn’t mind at all. πŸ™‚
The view was breathtaking at the restaurant where we had lunch. Very much worth the sweat!
Pineapple lunch with a view, not bad.. not bad at all! πŸ™‚
We are staying at Karon Hill atm. We really like this place. We have access to a gym here and during our training, we have a view of the jungle. That’s quite cool isn’t it!?
Today was badminton day in Kings Park, Phuket Town. Beautiful place and a beautiful day! Β Tomorrow we might try out some tennis as well. πŸ™‚

Well, that’s pretty much what we have been up to lately. We are leaving for Malaysia next week. Kuala Lumpur is our Β destination and we are going to stay there for only a few days. After KL we are heading for Singapore. So stay tuned πŸ™‚

Take care guys ❀

Koh Samet, Thailand

Good evening!

We just got back to our hotel. We had a wonderful dinner on the beach tonight, on the menu we had pizza, prawns, mussles and steak. The food was awesome.

Koh Samet has been very pleasant, this is a much more relaxed place than Koh Rong. This island is more family friendly and the tempo is much more chill, even though there’s enough entertainment for everyone. There’s a cool fire show every night on the beach, the bars here are very personal and prices are good. You can also enjoy a nice massage or manicure to a very fair price.

Yesterday we rented a small dirt bike and went to see what the island looks like. We found a lot of hills and beautiful view points. This place is very clean and the food has been very GOOD.Β The beaches are beautiful and there are a lot of activities you can do on the water as well.

The time here in Koh Samet is almost 23 pm and this is our final night here on this island. Tomorrow we are heading back to Bangkok and planning to spend the weekend there.

Anyways, just wanted to say good night and take care guys!

Pics from Koh Samet..

Riding the dirt bike was a lot of fun. It didn’t cost more than 500 Baht for 2 days. A normal vespa was even cheaper to rent!
View point.
The ride to the end view point took about 30min and just a few minute walk.
The food was great! Guys were enjoying tiger prawns and mussles while the girls were having pizza πŸ™‚
The fire shows were really cool! Talented young guys!
One of the personal beach bars. Really nice ones! πŸ™‚
Make you pick πŸ˜‰

Island of Koh Rong, Cambodia

Hello there!

We are sorry that we haven’t been able to update our blog earlier. We spent a few nights on the island of Koh Rong in Cambodia, a very primitive island where there’s limited access of electricity. The electricity went off a few hours during the day and almost all night. That means, no fan(!) We basically had no connection to the outer world, during our stay there. If there was a wifi connection, it was not working very well. There was no hospital (only a pharmacy), and no ATM machines on the island, so if you go to Koh Rong, make sure you take some cash with you. A few bandages and some medication for your stomach, might also come in handy.

Koh Rong is a beautiful island that lies close to Sihanoukville. It takes about 45-60min by boat. It’s a very big island with a lot of activities.Β We stayed in a bungalow called the Breezzee. The bungalows were new and the prize was ok. The food on the island was ok. The breakfast place near our hotel wasn’t the best, the prices were a little high, it took forever to get our food, and mostly it wasn’t even what we ordered. πŸ˜€ We ate a few times at a place called Coco’s. That was a great place where the prices and the service were good.Β Koh Rong is definitely more of a party island. There were a lot of young tourists and mostly backpackers on the island.

Even though we are usually in the mood for a little party, this 24/7 partying was a little too much for us. The fact that we actually got a terrible stomach flu and had to lay in bed for about 36h, didn’t make it any better!

The thing that was the hardest to adjust to, was that the sewer system was also very primitive. It led straight to the beach. Β The smell was terrible at some places and there were a lot of garbage everywhere.

We decided that 4 nights was enough at Koh Rong, and we headed back for the mainland. We decided to go back to Thailand. Our friends are flying back to Finland on saturday and they wanted to go and see the island of Koh Samet.

Soo.. here we are! Yesterday we arrived here in Koh Samet, Thailand. And have to say, that it feels really good to be here. We have a nice hotel, beautiful, clean rooms and exotic atmosphere (somehow sleeping next to the sewers in Koh Rong wasn’t that exotic).

Anyways, we are feeling much better and we are enjoying ourselves at the pool (once again) reading books and blogging. Yesterdays journey to get here took about 8h, so we are taking it a little easy today.

Here are some pictures from our time on the island, Koh Rong πŸ™‚

One day we took a trip around the island. Beautiful! There was this one beach called long beach, it was over 7km long and had snow white sand as long as eye could see! Amazing!!! You could even hear how the sand softly crunched under your feet.
The sunset from the boat. After the sun had set, we went to swim with plankton. You could see how they lighted up in the dark water. That was awesome! πŸ™‚
Monkeyisland. Yes you could see some monkeys. Even in some places where theres more tourists the monkeys where clever and stole a phone or a pad from you and traded it back for bananas! Β Genius!Β
The local sewer system. Unfortunately it led straight to the beach. Sometimes local kids and dogs were even playing in it.Β
Tree house bungalow. One of the reasons the bungalows where built on a platform or up in a tree, was that the wildlife wouldn’t sneak up on you in the middle of the night. (Snakes, centipedes, spiders, rats etc.) Crazy, but somehow you become one with the nature and didn’t fear the animals we were sharing the island with Β πŸ˜€Β

Take care guys! We’ll tell you more about Koh Samet soon! πŸ™‚

Angkor Wat

Yesterday we visited the holy temple of Angkor Wat; the biggest temple in Cambodia.
All in all, the area of Angkor is about 400 square km.

Angkor was built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II, and it took no more than 37 years to build this archeological monument.
It consists of lava stone, sand stone and wood, that were transported by elephants and by boat.

We were simply stunned by all the details and handmade masterpieces of the site.
If you are near Cambodia, you should take the time to go and see this historical wonder.

We also went to see the temple of Ta Prohm, where they filmed the movie Tomb Raider.

After the visit we jumped on a nightbus (around 20.30 p.m) to Sihanoukville. We arrived this morning at 07.00 a.m. It was a very bumpy ride, but we did get a few hours sleep.

It’s raining at the moment so we are chilling under a roof near the pool, reading some books and blogging. Tomorrow we are taking a boat to an island (don’t remember the name). We’ll let you know more about that later!

Take care guys! πŸ™‚

Inside the nightbus. Nice & cozy πŸ˜€

Arriving in Cambodia

Good evening!

The time here is 20.00 p.m. We are enjoying some drinks by the pool in our hotel. It’s also movie night for the hotel guests so we are all watching some movie with James Franco, don’t know the name. The sun has been shining all day and it’s actually getting real hot this week. The temperature for the next few days will be around 33-38Β°C.

We arrived in Siem Reap last night at 21.00 p.m. The journey to get here from Lipe started 9.30 a.m. yesterday. We took a speedboat from Ko Lipe to Pakbara –> minibus to Hat Yai airport – flew via Bangkok to Siem Reap. We flew with Air Asia and have to say that the flights were very pleasant.Β We already miss Ko LiPe, that place is stunningly beautiful, but new adventures awaits.

Today we have been walking around the streets of Siem Reap, and so far, we like this city. Everybody is smiling and the food has been really good so far.

Tomorrow we are going to visit one of the largest religious monument that has ever been built, the Tempel of Angkor Wat. We will give you guys an update on our experience there.

Sorry, no pics today. Somehow the uploading doesn’t seem to work! Trying again tomorrow! Take care πŸ™‚

Pics from Ko Li Pe

Sah wah dee khaa !

Yesterday was a really good day. We went with a longtail boat to Tarutao National Park to check out the coral reefs. If there is such a thing as a perfect beach.. that might be the one. We were almost all alone.

The guys went for scuba diving so I (Camilla) had the beach all to myself. Perfect quality time!

Mikael brought his underwater camera with him, so hopefully he got some great pics of all the colourful beauty that lies beneath the surface.

Ko Li Pe is the place to be if you love beautiful beaches, just wanna relax and have a chill vacation. Here are some pics from this beautiful island.
